“””The Common Core State Standards provide a consistent, clear understanding of what students are expected to learn, so teachers and parents know what they need to do to help them. The standards are designed to be robust and relevant to the real world, reflecting the knowledge and skills that our young people need for success in college and careers.”””

“Clear” understanding??? Can you really imagine a typical parent reading through this litany of words – and understanding what it really means and how to apply it?
The concept has merit the current implementation fails to meet the Vision/Mission.

Formulas of how to get to the promised land are attractive, but the proof, as you point out, is in the pudding. We like to think that’s a niche all by itself, creating learning experiences that actually are practical and attractive to users. Often, the explanatory portion of these grand plans needs an explanation. Which few of us admittedly have the time or patience to wade through, no matter how well it may be conceived, or explained. Few of us will RTFM anymore, me included.

There’s just too many of them, and life is already an information overload. I might peruse a FAQ…or watch a You Tube.
Maybe someone made one for this??

This core standard stuff is not quite my turf, or any grand educational strategy that fits all…I don’t have the educational theory background to easily grasp whether it’s something that makes sense, or instead is a grand plan which will go on the shelf with the other grand plans, that fail in the implementation.

Somewhat off topic, but piles of verbiage is not only encountered in the world of education, but in healthcare as well. I have had to, in the last few days, make a decision about a Dental Insurance plan among several complicated choices. I tried, but in the end gave up, and decided to wing it, because I couldn’t figure it out. The explanations needed explanations.

Reminded me of doing a 1040 for the IRS. Is there an “answer” for this level of impractical process? Well, god help us but it might end up being more process…simplicity being something very hard won in this universe.
