A group fostering better journalistic issue reporting in NM recently received a big $525,000 grant from Kellogg Foundation. Also money from McCune.
Getting grants can be very challenging at a national level. But these two groups are apparently focusing on areas of funding for New Mexico that PSA is covering…
The Kellogg Foundation founded by the cereal pioneer, Will Keith Kellogg, focuses domestically in four areas – Michigan, Mississippi, New Mexico and New Orleans. Its mission states that it is “guided by the belief that all children should have an equal opportunity to thrive” and “works with communities to create conditions for vulnerable children so they can realize their full potential in school, work and life.”

I should also mention the $60K that the CRF got from something called the Stocker Foundation. Their website says:
“”””The Stocker Foundation’s funding continues to target proven programs and services that show promise of moving the needle toward grade-level reading proficiency for all students. Our work promotes the building of literacy-rich environments in classrooms and homes; developing partnerships with public school districts and classroom teachers; and providing early intervention and supports so that students get (and stay) on track to reading success. “”””
Hmmm. Proven programs would probably not be PSA in the near term…but maybe one still can use such a foundation to fish for referrals to other foundations…
The McCune Foundation’s mission states that it is “dedicated to enriching the health, education, environment and cultural and spiritual life of New Mexicans.”
I’m going to post links to their websites here as well.
