LCSN article from July 2012 on Dual Language in LCPS.

Today’s story from LCSN saved as pdf, dumped into public folder of DropBox, then linked here.

LCPS is trying to forge ahead with something positive for students who are heavily ESL, by offering instruction in Spanish to some. Controversial area in education… one that I don’t claim any expertise as to what’s the best approach to the very real circumstance of kids who need to learn but don’t as yet speak english.

Clearly local and regional employers don’t have an option to ignore language difficulties of their employees either. Hopefully someone knows best what to do about it. I wonder if, for example, we polled the Hispanic Educational Initiative group, if there would consensus on the “correct approach”, or disagreement.
This article sounds like perhaps the new LCPS approach is very similar to the New America charter high school in Las Cruces that is just opening.
