One example of educational reform in higher learning….except this one was back in 1970, and I was in the first class ever of something called New College at U of Hawaii at Manoa.
In a sense, this was/is a big part of my belief in the possibilities of dramatic changes for the better towards new/improved learning environments… Environments that can be customized to fit the student, instead of vice versa.
We find ourselves again in such a time when new things are being tried, and the “old way of doing things” being set aside to see if there can’t possibly be a better way of learning available to us.
New College ended 40 years ago…the needs and ideas and drive for reform have never really gone away, but progress in the interim has been spotty, and fallen short. Now with online tools, there’s renewed hope that THIS TIME, reform will stick.
