As we know, Apple has the iTunes U, which is a way to access online courseware, mostly viewable through iTunes application. Or possible through a separate downloadable app, or both. This is apples guide to creating your course for iTunes U. An app for iPad would have more interactivity than a file in iTunes…

Since many of “leading” universities have some or many courses linked through iTunes…a good stop on our rounds of keeping informed.

IF we were part of a k-12 school district or university…. I wonder if charter schools count? Or would one need to go “pirate” iTunes U somehow…?

Looking into it a bit more…it’s free if you are a qualified institution. They want to enter into a “binding contract” with that institution, although there’s no actual $$ to pay Apple. iTunes U is actually a powerful arrangement for hosting online courses. Now maybe if one knows Jamai Bliven, and one can come up with the trappings of an institution of some sort…one could get a key to the lock. Hey, we ARE a non profit. Sounds doubtful admittedly.

I imagine there will be a “GoDaddy” third party coming along to host courses that isn’t Apple at some point. A Google version that maybe is less prestigious and user friendly but more open to “anyone” who wants to host courses there, if you sign up to be part of their data point collections?
