Two stories from SLATE on measures cable companies are taking to throttle back bandwidth unless you are willing to pay surcharges for it….and push Netflix, and other, streaming services off the cliff by capping use of “outside” providers at low levels.
This is NOT GOOD. Could well have an impact on streaming video for classes too. I must have been asleep at the switch not to have noticed this was arriving…
Same old same old. When you deregulate monopolies and oligopolies, the consumer gets F****d! In the case of something that is a fundamental competitive necessity in the information age, society as a whole loses big time.
The self fulfilling prophecy will be that if the the the cable and telco bandits get there way long enough, no on will be able to afford to pay their bills – of course the execs will be relaxing in Fiji (or is it Davos) by then.
Same holds true for Healthcare of course.
