We hear a lot about MOOCs, but there are some pretty large enrollments in degree-granting on-line schools – here is a list of the top 20.
With 270,000 on-line students dominates and the vast majority of the schools are for profit. The University of Maryland (#8) leads the list of Public universities with 41,000 on-line students.
Eduventures looks like an interesting site.
Head counts of students online is a tricky stat, as many stats are. When trying to figure out how much “online learning” was going on at NMSU last year, it turned out some colleges have large numbers of online classes and students. Such as College of Health… but a lot of those were just shovel ware with little or no “online learning community”….and lacking the other elements of a truly innovative learning experience.
Kind of “shouldn’t count”, imo.
