Penn (one of my Alma Mater) was relatively late to the On-Line education world, but it is in now with both feet – driven by a variety of objectives that span the gamut from defending it’s reputation to enhancing the on-campus experience to generating new revenue streams.
This article provides some interesting insights into their concerns and expectations.
(Admin note: This is a terrific and lengthy article by one of the important players…added it to our media library in a pdf easy read version here.)
It is kind of interesting that Penn (unlike MIT and maybe Carnegie Mellon) is focused much less on the technology and more on the applications.
It would be nice to see NMSU and UNM as engaged.
This post inspired me to upload a pdf version to our media library, and to write another post on similar today.
To be fair to NMSU, and since “moved on” Barbara Couture, should note again (several references in the past) here that NMSU joined a consortium of other land grant universities working under the leadership of a huge NEA grant to Carnegie Mellon to develop online and adaptive support for university courses.
The program was sold as “support” for 101 level courses, but it’s really a comprehensive online learning program that can handle all level of students, and yes, pretty much replace the way it’s done now.
