Our minds work by figuring out the story we’re in. A good DLE probably needs both to establish that story clearly…. and then to play with it in order to keep our minds engaged. Maybe a bit like this one does… defy expectations, mix metaphors, surprise, and have a sense of humor. We are all “in on the joke” but at the same time, the “jokes on us”.
