“NM In Depth” Story on NM state officials choosing a vendor to provide new mandate of Healthcare Exchange… instead of DIY. One is left to decipher whether this implies foot-dragging on the part of our state administration, for whatever partisan “Obamacare” issues there may be, or is simply a good approach.

Healthcare involves communicating enormous amounts of information to consumers for care, including the choosing and maintenance of insurance, but also the proper day-to-day healthcare decisions and appropriate management of medications etc…  to preventive medicine and lifestyle changes… to dealing with the family and psychological issues of illness…and to handling of health problem employment implications.

The interactive nature of this process can be seen to be another form of SLC, and involves someone creating DLE to help the information “move around” and be stored as a “learning product” in “consumers” brains. Education, IOW.

It was thought that such Healthcare Exchanges would inevitably be involved in enabling this sort of education, and ever more elaborately over time. This is a trend driven  at least in part by the needs to bring more people efficiently “into the healthcare insurance system”, but also to address the cost saving derived from activating quality “preventive medicine” for a few hundred million Americans. Among other healthcare cost control contingencies.

In a “nutshell”, these health exchanges represent some expansive world of new “educational” institutions that will be depending on online interactions and online learning in Massively Open Online Co-opts… and that spells opportunity in River City.

And quite likely will involve communities of practice as well. Enterprises are springing up at a more local level to provide hands on help to individuals engaged in the healthcare process. Healthcare exchanges will work with these local providers and hand holders too.
