LCPS super Stan Rounds in LCSN talks about bringing alternative methods to reach students to the fore. Not sure where this “came from”, but it has the appearances of fairly dramatic change for the better. Maybe the charter school movement helped this transformation, and the fact that NM DOE halted new charter schools for at least a year, has opened the door for LCPS to get caught up with “trends for change”.

Whatever the impetus, it’s a welcome direction…and perhaps shows that pressures moving higher ed crises toward MOOC and other changes, may be now felt at K-12?

“It’s a market,” Rounds said. “And I don’t aim to be behind the market.”

This begs the question what is happening in similar school districts in the rest of the country…
