This Business Week article has no depth, but makes several important points:
1) MOOCs (and on-line education in general) are apt to create a “star class” as in other businesses which will have profound effects on the profession and the universities (think football coaches or rap stars).
2) OpenEdx could potentially really accelerate the MOOC trend – especially in non-US markets *think Open Source in Romania). Curation will prove “interesting”.
3) Khan is beginning the rigorous exploration of what questions assess mastery with big data. As John has mentioned, this will eventually revolutionize concepts of assessment and certification.
4) Colleges will really need to re-invent themselves, redefining their mission in the creation of a citizen.
5) Is Wharton really offering their entire 1st year program on-line for free?
