We’ve already learned that learning Japanese from anime is cool…in Jazmin’s post here… and everyone else at last Saturday’s session seemed to grok anime. But some more than others perhaps? So, a query from the older generation to the newer generation… here’s another Japanese youtube…. Is this also a kuhl way to learn Japanese?
A story: when I was still living at home in 1966 just before leaving forever… I had only a very crappy low fidelity mono record player, upon which I played Rolling Stones release “High Tide and Green Grass” mono 33.3 vinyl. This was in a suburb of Chicago, and it was straight-ville as far as the eye and mind could see in every direction.
I listened to it over and over while sculpting 3 life size heads with religious themes with clay. My mother wanted to get some “record” I would like for my birthday, or was sick of Mick, so she went to a downtown old style record store in Chicago. The clerk recommended some absolutely ridiculous Italian “rock” group, which she bought for me.
So, older generations can be completely “tone dead” on certain things, despite accumulated wisdom and good intentions. Yet, there was love involved, so how “wrong” could it be? (current perspective)
Oh, and who should we credit with explaining what “Cool” means, and what “Hot” means too, about the same time as High Tide and Green Grass?
Learning languages through music videos generally involves using english subtitles at the bottom of the video. Your brain will unconsciously connect the Japanese words being sung to the subtitles at the bottom of the screen, even if you don’t realize it. This is a cool video to show what it’s like without the subtitles.
