Black Magic Designs produces very full featured Editing, Color Correction, Color Grading, and Rendering software in their Davinci Resolve application. They also make a whole suite of hardware tools for setting up a full production studio that supports the software in action.
We are fortunate in that BMD offers a LITE version of Davinci Resolve for free. Here’s a document that introduces one to a whole host of footage processing features, and distinguishes between the full and the LITE versions. Also fortunately, there really aren’t too many features that we are going to miss by only having the LITE version.
In fact, it would probably be half a year at minimum before we even fully understand what all the features in the LITE version do, there are so very many of them. Which is okay, because we are going to likely only use a limited set of features now to accomplish our present pre and post production tasks.
The full version of the software runs about $1k, and the supporting hardware runs “if you have to ask you can’t afford it” range.
