1 Beyond Digital Video Systems announces “no hands” classroom capture system. Kudos to Gary for link.
Click on the link below for direct access to their explanatory video of this new system which they are installing at MIT for “capture” of lectures using multiple cameras with a switcher, and automated functions as well as streaming.
With the 1 Beyond U-Switch Appliance and browser-based U-Switch Player it is now possible to stream and record a multi-camera event with no on-site production crew and no editing team. Users choose camera angles as they watch, live or on-demand. The result: an enhanced viewer experience and lower production costs.

This shows some of the contradictions inherent in any process where new media replaces old media. Hybrids arise that don’t necessarily take full advantage of what the new tech can do. In this instance, this video production platform looks promising and offers a lot of uses perhaps not intended.
PSA could have a lot of “fun” with something like this…but it wouldn’t end up looking at all like this very boring grey/beige set of carpet and walls, and blackboards from 1882,
OTOH, it’s an example of a very fancy form of shovel ware…because only a portion of what OTL can be is occurring,…instead front and center is a whole lot of the same way we did things in the classroom before OTL was available. I do like that apparently the student can choose which camera they want to view in real time.
