This video is a little like visiting the uncanny valley…something unsettling about it. And also silly at the same time. Sure, it’s another brick in the wall of robot saying “anything you can do I can do better”…the slicing off the pea pod was impressive….and if we ever needed a surgery drive through, maybe this robot could learn how to do it.
This is described as “training the robot” who “watches” and “mimics” the samurai’s movements. There is a fair amount of human learning that is done through “watch and mimic” sessions. What if it was reversed, with the human watching and learning from the robot?
Maybe a furry fuzzy robot showing kids how to tie their shoes? Or leading the yoga class with impeccable and precise movements. For learning how to dance? For learning how to march like a Marine? Shoot a basket? Fold a sheet? Change the oil filter? What else?
