Michal Tsur and Kaltura are important players in delivery of video content IRT, and” just in time”. It’s worth keeping an eye on what they are up to.

There’s a series of videos from the recent Classroom of Tomorrow conference, and this below is kind of the keynote. Others will follow in subsequent posts.

Why are we enthralled by some media experiences, and not by others? A lot of it is in the quality and artfulness and production values. There’s a reason that commercials are so expensive to produce…they have to have huge impact in a very short period of time…and that takes a LOT of expertise and time and equipment to produce. Today, costs of production are dramatically less in that we have digital hardware and software tools that are within reach of many, and if one is doing a YouTube shot with your iPhone…even less resource expense is involved.

But one still needs to have “impact”, no matter what the “level” of the production. Below Michal is clearly ESL (and we don’t hold that against her), but she’s reading off a teleprompter, and it’s really messing with the effectiveness of her delivery…the content of which is valuable and important. What’s needed is ALL the elements working together for impactful presentation. Something that is often lacking in the “turn your classroom lecture into an online experience” approach that makes up the bulk of online course creation today.

The coming generations of teachers, and students, who have grown up immersed in creating and sharing video, will likely be much better at making impactful online courses. Especially when incorporating technology for just in time video…adaptive learning…such as Kaltura is working hard to develop.
