When voters in southern New Mexico voted to tax themselves to support the development of “Spaceport America”, there was a proviso in the law passed that designated circa 25% of the tax increase be used for education of students in the affected counties. The focus of the education was to be STEM and commercial space related. This is actually a fairly large sized chunk of funding available each fiscal year to the local school districts, and there have been some facilities and programs created to support the intended educational activities.
