The current focus of innovation in mobile computing and communication includes both Virtual Reality, and Augmented Reality. At times it seems one, or the other, is likely to reach maturity first and become a ubiquitous tool, yet we aren’t sure which is farthest toward that goal. We aren’t even sure necessarily if they will be separate technologies, or if they will become blended into one thing.
Actually, we already live in a “space” that includes both Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality, when we drill down into how various devices impact our perceptive processes and sense of self. And that has changed those growing up with current mobile technologies, as noted in the previous post from Kris with concerns about children not getting enough physical presence and contact with other kids.
Below is a YouTube by Rene Ritchie, respected reviewer of Apple technologies, in which he does a very rapid review of the steps Apple has taken to develop AR, and his speculation on where they might be with that technology as of today. Yes, he talks too fast, or so it seems to this reviewer. However YouTube rapidity of vocalizations seems to be a “thing”. There’s also some out there that like to speed up the way they listen to podcasts as much as 2x or more,, so maybe its the 1x people who are “slow”.
Presented here as a sort of stimulation towards thinking more about AR and VR and “media is the message” issues.
Plus, who knows when, but Tim Cook has been quoted saying AR will be “Huge”.
