Reports of dysfunction for LFH are out there; one below from LA Times.
Of course, when you throw everyone in the pool and say “SWIM!”… there will be many many problems. Such as described in the story: teachers not being LFH trained, to students suddenly without the structure and discipline of school, as well as homes and parents not being up to speed for LFH either..
[gview file=”https://publicservicesalliance.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/School-at-home-is-the-coronavirus-reality.-Whats-next-Los-Angeles-Times.pdf”]People will “have to” adapt…somehow…which always takes time. OTOH, quality learning materials are out there, and can be sourced to serve a broad cross section of students, if “red tape” can be sorted through, and if current teachers who are now online can figure out how to do it. Will take a lot of learning from experience, and a lot of time to make adjustments.
One resource that might find its way into common LFH practice,, is students teaching other students…sometimes called a “Back Channel” for online learning. It could become more of the Front Channel in the weeks ahead. Also ideas and memes can “blow up”, so perhaps there will be a series of those guiding the online LFH transitions with YouTubes, Instagrams, and even TikToks.
