The pandemic has ramped up the rate of change dramatically for jobs, and the concomitant worker’s skills needed. Huge incentives currently exist to replace humans with machines that don’t get viruses, or need expensive healthcare insurance, but can often do the job faster and more consistently.
The takeaway from the Time article below, might be that there’s a present and coming crisis of retraining the American Workforce, and while this can be done, it takes a large commitment of resources to do so. And given the pace of change, questions arise about what sorts of jobs workers should be trained to perform for a post pandemic economy.
