This is an example of locally embedded healthcare innovation but partly funded by large Tech. While there’s no mention of the actual amount that Intel “granted” to Electronic Caregiver, we do learn how there’s a joint project underway involving local medical institutions. Such projects should yield practical knowledge about working with local Dona Ana conditions, as well as factors that could support rollouts in other locations, nationwide.
So what’s needed is both the knowledge of what works locally, and also knowledge of the factors that can scale up to the statewide, or nationwide level. Clearly doing both at the same time is a huge challenge, but it’s what will make possible the most comprehensive improvements in digitally supported healthcare.
Melding the local with national and worldwide tools, is essential for all digital “great leaps forward” that we are on the cusp of “delivering” in education, healthcare, social services, and even government processes.
Perhaps needless to note, the practicality/ effective use of resources, efficiency…etc …that such maximized tools can provide is a huge carrot to NGO, Enterprise, and Government. What’s missing is the leadership to organize the players into effective programs, and to fund them adequately.
It makes a lot of sense that locally embedded healthcare innovation projects should be maximized through federal help in times of pandemics, and likely will find a great deal of support in the new 2021 administration and Congress. But that’s TBD, and we’ll need to stay informed on how that develops, as well as support local implementations. Many announced programs run into fierce pushback, and can fail because of it, so vigilance is required.
