New America charter school in downtown Las Cruces is focused on fringe students who for whatever reason didn’t fit LCPS, dropped out to work, or to be parents, or were in need of strong ESL learning. Still, New America was subject to pushback from the NM PED, who had a period of charter school suppression a few years ago.
Subsequent NM state court rulings re-established former protocols and standards for charter school instruction, and New America has been getting back to “normal’ since.
Considering the above graduating class survived both the NM PED, and the pandemic, even 33 graduates is impressive.
