Microsoft initiative hopes to close digital divide in El Paso

Another Digital Divide initiative. As funding for same becomes available through the Federal and State governments, and third parties such as Microsoft or Underline, we’ll see increasing numbers of initiatives, in various forms with various MO.

Of special note here, the definition of affordable quality broadband access varies greatly by which entity is defining it. Any form of metaverse connectivity will require more generous definitions of what is broadband and will encounter higher costs as well.

Meanwhile, some initiative proposals envision something much less capable as being the goal of  “broadband access”. This pattern of keeping up, or not keeping up, with advances in bandwidth has been ongoing since the early days of POTS-based dial-up ISPs.
