Matt Schmit will serve as the broadband advisor for the newly-formed state Office of Broadband Access and Expansion. Schmit will centralize and coordinate broadband activities across all agencies and internet service providers to focus on “significant broadband deployment and expansion” for the state. Schmit has served as the director of the Illinois Office of Broadband since 2019.
Mr. Schmit has arrived at a time of opportunity to make great progress with affordable quality broadband access in NM, as there are a number of large pots of funding from the BEADA Fed monies to windfall for NM in the state budget from current high price of oil, and furious expansion of the Permian fields in southeastern NM.
IOW there’s no better time to greatly upgrade the NM broadband infrastructure than now. PSA wishes Mr Schmit every success in pursuing same.
