With Microsoft’s deep pockets and OpenAI’s cutting-edge artificial intelligence, the companies hope to remain at the forefront of generative artificial intelligence — technologies that can generate text, images and other media in response to short prompts.
This is just another part of the ongoing story with a few more details below about this very significant funding from MS for OpenAI. We will certainly learn more about what the MS investments will lead to in the way of products in the coming weeks/ months.
But the new A.I. technologies come with a long list of flaws. They often produce toxic content, including misinformation, hate speech and images that are biased against women and people of color.
(We also might note that traditional news aggregators and distributors such as the New York Times might have reason to throw some shade on tech which implies future impacts on their business model. Would that appear in their reporting? The editorializing phrases “Often produce”, and “long list of flaws” are not actually factual statements. Who says so, and how is “often” and “long” quantified?)
Many in the AI information space will face competition from other Giant Tech corporations including Google.
Google intends to unveil more than 20 products and demonstrate a version of its search engine with chatbot features this year, according to a slide presentation reviewed by The New York Times and two people with knowledge of the plans, who were not authorized to discuss them.
