While perhaps distracted by attempting to understand the implications of rapid AI advances, such as ChatBots and similar awe-inspiring AI innovations, there’s other ongoing areas to stay abreast of.

For example, Apple and Meta(Facebook) are investing a ton in metaverse/ virtual reality experiences which are likely to make a big/ bigger splash this year. That will advance the creation and innovation of virtual worlds, such as we experienced with Second Life some 20 years ago now.

Yes, Second Life 4.0 is arriving, though in new versions with different names. Some of the former fairly severe limitations of bandwidth and processing power are no longer crimping the experience.

There’s some real overlapping between artificial worlds, virtual realities, metaverses, and “video games”. Presumably those will meld into one thing, in the not too distant future…and may well also be the way we interact with AI in coming years.

AI needs a “front end”, and one can imagine a number of possible virtual world ways that can be done. “Video Games” are one example of front ends that have progressed in leaps and bounds in terms of immersive tech, and that might form a model for “in world” AI and chatbot interactions.

Below is one NYTimes look at some of the current states of the arts.
