Tim Cook says he “Really Believes” Apple’s legacy will be their success in supporting healthcare.
If recent PR is accurate, AI from Open AI, and others, is now consistently “smarter” or more accurate than the smartest scientists, by some benchmarks. Presumably that would include being smarter than our smartest doctors who can do research but not nearly as rapidly or as comprehensively as AI can.
Since much of medical diagnosis involves perceiving patterns in a patient’s symptoms and blood tests, and since pattern recognition is one of the skills AI is best at…it seems plausible that AI can do it “better than any single doctor” could do. Or maybe even better than the cross speciality Mayo Clinic’s team approach.
Being “Plausible” is not to say it’s a proven capability, but as AI rapidly improves, today’s plausible may well become tomorrow’s established capability.
In addition to education, Community Schools and regular public schools perform a range of social services including food and healthcare in addition to security and adult supervision. As speculated here of late, the educational function may be radically restructured and reformatted to take advantage of what AI tutoring and “teaching” can and soon will be able to do. Which suggests the costs of the education portion of “schooling” might fall enough for grass roots initiatives to be able to provide.
But the same cost reduction may well apply to medical and healthcare services supported by computers and medical technology that might be incorporated into iPhones, and other hardware/ software platforms such as Tim Cook implies are coming from Apple. (and other providers such as Google etc) If that too is plausible, the two most expensive portions of many state budgets, and local school district budgets might be undercut by third party options at greatly reduced costs. Again, that sort of access to medical and healthcare may be supportable by grass roots organizations.
Food does not seem part of an AI cost reduction dramatic change, and adult supervision, security, and social activities would remain as school building functions, but it might be that school districts would undergo dramatic changes nonetheless. And the current job description for teachers may look dramatically different, with more social service functions, and fewer educational functions.
