Sam Altman just released plans for how OpenAI is going to structure their AI offerings in the near future. They involve grouping various models into one thing.
IOW melding the capabilities of what’s now available, plus additional capabilities, into one package with various levels of cost and access: The new “one thing” is to be called ChatGPT5 later in 2025. In the meantime there will be ChatGPT 4.5 soon.
Sam Altman lays out roadmap for OpenAI’s long-awaited GPT-5 model.
GPT-4.5 will arrive in “weeks,” then GPT-5 will meld conventional LLMs and reasoning models.
It remains to be seen if these steps produce a coherent naming strategy for OpenAI products, which to date has not been a particular strong point of their customer PR .
