This Ezra Klein Show below is chock-full of ideas about AI and Education in a discussion with an “expert” resource: Rebecca Winthrop. Below is some of her Bio from Linked-In.

I serve on a range of education non-profit boards and am an adjunct professor at Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service. I hold a PhD from Columbia University’s Teachers College, a MA from its School of International and Public Affairs, and a BA from Swarthmore College.

I have spent the past thirty years dedicated to ensuring that every child has the opportunity to thrive in life, work, and as an engaged citizen. As a senior fellow and director of the Center for Universal Education at Brookings, I lead cutting-edge research and initiatives aimed at transforming education systems around the world to better support children’s learning and development.

It doesn’t get much more “elite expert” than that, and there’s a whole lot more to her CV if one is interested.

Ezra Klein is known to be one of the NYTimes best opinion writers, and his YouTube Podcast is very popular. This YouTube below has already been accessed over 120K times in a day.

However, as is the case for many “live” and “improvised” discussions, the ideas ,while generally coherent, are jumbled and sometimes contradictory. Is AI a useful piece of the education toolbox, or is it a commercial profit driven attempt to seduce our kids? OR both? If education is about preparing kids to find work upon graduation, what if we suddenly don’t see what jobs might be available in 5 or 10 year after more AI development?

In an attempt to dive deeper into what useful ideas might be found here, ChatGPT 03 was asked to help. Below there’s a link to the very very extensive conversation that ensued, where CGPT sketches out a terrain for truly getting up to speed on “how to think about AI in Education”. Or at the least, it’s a great start on stimulating further thinking and research.

And if that isn’t quite enough, future posts here will discuss the idea of “what jobs will there be if AI develops further“, both from the above YouTube, and from the recent YouTubes by David Shapiro on “The Post Labor Economy“.
