As we may be aware, Marshall McLuhan had a lot to say about the historical Gutenberg Moment.

Marshall McLuhan’s 1962 book, “The Gutenberg Galaxy,” explores the profound impact of the printing press and its invention of movable type, exemplified by the “Gutenberg Bible,” on European culture and human consciousness.

McLuhan argues that the Gutenberg press ushered in a new era of typographic culture, shifting human perception and behavior from oral and aural traditions to a more linear and visual understanding of the world.

He also examines how this shift led to the development of a new kind of individual, what he called “typographic man,” and coined the term “global village” to describe the interconnectedness facilitated by mass media.

Kudos to Gary for the link, and Gary has this to say:

Is AI a human tool /technique/technology, or a human replacement? – I have to hope and believe it is the former.  How then do we create the future that works, sustainably?  That will likely require a revised view of what it means to be human and how one’s worth is defined.

Below EMILY CHAMLEE-WRIGHT connects the transition created by Gutenberg with current AI transitions.
