There’s no shortage of “takes” on the AI “Transformation of Everything” underway, and the “leader of the pack” on AI pronouncements seems to be Sam Altman, who has kept up a fevered pace of conferences, interviews, blog posts, keynotes etc which since circa ChatGPT 2 have forecast where we subsequently ended up.
Now Sam has written another blog post that covers a huge amount of ground about AI development, where we’ve come. from, where we are now, and where we are going. Why should we care what Altman has to say? Well for one thing, OpenAI says that “hundreds of millions rely on it everyday” which speaks to usefulness as well as perhaps very good marketing and business model.
No, Altman doesn’t have a beard as yet.
In addition there’s something about out Altman’s presentation style over the last few years which seems to embody credibility and level headed perceptions, and less misleading hype than one might expect given the developmental pace, and their current apparent bid for the lead in AI monetization.
There have been Altman detractors along the way as OPEN AI expanded into the AI giant it is today; and a few OPEN AI leaders messily tried to fire Altman a few years back…But that controversy seems to have mostly dissipated, although Elon Musk continues to take shots.
In pursuit of knowing what he’s saying right now, here’s two links, one of the Gentle Singularity blog post… with a second post to follow with deep analysis of the blog’s ideas.
Both are comprehensive and the ChatGPT 03 deep research is, let’s face it, exhaustive. OTOH, during this period of rapid change it’s our mission, should we choose to accept it, to keep up with ideas involved and not fall hopelessly behind.
