Steve Wheeler of the University of Plymouth explores the concept of new learning forms that don’t simply place old forms on new digital platforms, but reconsider those forms.

Key among the ideas given is personalized learning via the Just in time, Just enough, Just for me admonishment, a vision nearly impossible without a fully engaged community, smart application of technology, or both.

Needless to say, I’m quite enthused about this link!!!! Thank you Kris!!!

Neatly packages a number of recent themes in our PSA and CRF and Anya K conversations.
(But I Guess things are changing too fast for Steve to include an audio track…or perhaps with some media less is more…Actually, this powerpoint kind of reminds me of a Marshall McLuhan book. See comment below this one.

“Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire.”
Written about 100 years ago…but I guess we are just now capable of real time mass ignition?

This sort of fits the two links Kris posted today, so it could go as a comment on either one.
And it also brings up the aspect of a learner as a holistic being, where starting the fire of learning involves a multiplicity of fire starting tools, including wellness. And also the fun of a serendipitous printing error:

“Why is the title of the book The Medium is the Massage and not The Medium is the Message? Actually, the title was a mistake. When the book came back from the typesetter’s, it had on the cover ‘Massage’ as it still does. The title was supposed to have read The Medium is the Message but the typesetter had made an error. When McLuhan saw the typo he exclaimed, ‘Leave it alone! It’s great, and right on target!’ Now there are possible four readings for the last word of the title, all of them accurate: Message and Mess Age, Massage and Mass Age.”
