From NewMexicoStem.org:
In partnership with Education360 and Innovate+Educate, Senator Linda M. Lopez has introduced SB 377, which calls for the creation of a statewide Digital Learning Task Force charged with developing a comprehensive Digital Learning Plan for New Mexico. Among several issues, the task force will examine schools’ technology infrastructure needs, quality standards and definitions for various digital learning methods, and potential cost savings associated with digital learning. SB 377 also seeks to update and align the six-year-old Statewide Cyber Academy Act and existing distance learning rules.
Hmmm. Ya never know these days, who to trust for something like this. Statewide can be good, or it can be “one ring to rule them all”…
Kris and I heard about Education 360 ongoing transformation of Chapparal HS from Susie Bussman in the summer last year. It sounded good, in that they were firmly focused on it being a locally driven and locally decided initiative, with the “outsiders” providing support, planning, and presets for “reform modules” re what a HS can or “should be”.
I wonder what the fate of IDEAL NM is now, which formerly ran the statewide innovation efforts in this area…and which was driven by guys like Brian Ormand…who helped write the Cyber Academy Act along with a cadre of fellow travelers.
AFAIK, Brian O is still involved with innovate/educate so could well have been involved in this new legislation as well.
