Julie Parra published a presentation on Slideshare, the PPT version of which is available for download on a NMSU PBWiki here. The Wiki also contains other related content that may be of interest.
The PPT cites numerous of references and resources, not all of which are current.
You know that I am the “outlier” here, so I was interested to find two new buzz words to add to my arsenal – ANDRAGOGY and HEUTAGOGY. I am getting more dangerous by the day.
Good catch Gary…since both Kris and I have been Julia’s “students” we might have reasonably been expected to find this before you. Perhaps, as you indicate, you are getting the “learning meme” bug. Hard not to become infected these days, and more “dangerous” for being a “carrier”.
Julia is generally a good bet to be “up to date” on new trends, and worth checking in with from time to time. Perhaps we could “coin” terms less dependent on the Greek language roots… “heutagogy” is not going to catch on in my universe, but a good underlying concept to point to.
Mongolian State University Conference?????????????
Go Yurts!
Note: if you “play” the slideshow instead of just going from ppt slide to slide, one gets more information and notes on the screen as one goes through the presentation.
One more thought: considering how many people around the world are thinking about “learning today” it’s going to be very hard to “keep up” with what others are thinking “in real time”. I wonder if Kris might get herself involved in another one of those mini MOOCs she found previously.
Even if one has good insights, the pace of new insights worldwide tends to be overwhelming. Yet we persist.
Checking out a MOOC is a good way to survey learning approaches that increase self-direction therefore improving motivation…a goal of andragogy. Huetagogy is new to me, but from the wikipedia, it seems to be more about finding approaches that best tap into the natural characteristics of learners to move to self direction.
