There’s a fascinating interface between what businesses need for education and training of their employees, and the potentials of new online learning tools.

How far will business move towards meeting those learning needs, especially as those tools get less expensive? If your workers can’t afford “traditional” higher education, and lets face it, few actually can afford it…can your business step in?

Here’s a story describing how Starbucks has decided to take some responsibility for learning opportunities for employees, through a scholarship program with Arizona State U.

“We are employing over 100,000 young people in America, and the majority of them don’t have a degree,” Schultz said. “We can’t wait for Washington. Businesses and business leaders need to do more for their people and the communities they serve.”
