Can mindfulness be taught and enhance learning?
The question posed by this article was focused on mindfulness being used to enhance learning. The answer depends upon how an instructor decides to use it and the manner in which it is taught. For example, you cannot tell students they must “pay attention” and expect they will stay that way for long. What would be more effective is to provide them with tools that will help them to focus and be engaged in class. It may also not be an effective strategy to tell students they are learning mindfulness, especially if they cannot make a direct connection between it and the class. What can occur, if implemented as a series of tips and tools, is to transform the possibility of mindless learning into a potential for mindful learning.
