We are familiar with the Flipped Classroom, where learners source video for the group as part of collaborative learning.
Periscope, a new app, is a bit of a twist on that idea, in that we are watching in real time what others are seeing through their smartphone video camera. It adds another rich source of real time content…that would support real time interactivity and co-exploring of learning content.
Not sure how one would archive a Periscope streamed video for asynchronous searching, but perhaps there’s a way…real time is very useful, but a searchable archive of content is too.
I tried this app some time back to see how it worked. A presenter at a conference was planning on using it to stream her presentation live. Unfortunately, her connectivity was too low to live stream.
Supposedly, a tweet would go out from the presenter’s account notifying of the live streaming. The viewer would click on a link in the tweet to join. A great idea to offer online streaming of conference sessions.
