One of our favorite education writers Anya Kamenetz wrote this story for NPR ED recently, surveying the science of raiding children to be “brilliant”. This is one of the 7 core elements: “Applying the New Science of Learning”.
[gview file=”https://publicservicesalliance.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/07/How-To-Raise-Brilliant-Children-According-To-Science-NPR-Ed-NPR.pdf”]We’re training kids to do what computers do, which is spit back facts. And computers are always going to be better than human beings at that. But what they’re not going to be better at is being social, navigating relationships, being citizens in a community. So we need to change the whole definition of what success in school, and out of school, means.
This post sings to me as a grandma, mom, and former educator. Good stuff for understanding how the 21st century kids are evolving into our future.
