Canada is an interesting alternate model for telecom in US, although most of us in US are probably very ignorant about “how they do it up there”.
Canada shares with US the problem of extremely spread out populations over a large land mass, which makes broadband access solutions over land lines very expensive in sparse population areas.
It would seem that solutions for both countries to the problem of affordable access will involve some form of wireless/ satellite/ network. But to make that affordable to all, will also require political will to make it so… through subsidies, incentives, or other low cost for low income programs.
One of the ways to do that, is to adopt a law of the land stating internet access is a “basic service”. Which PSA supports.
