As the pandemic load in Southern NM has been surging currently, the LCPS BOD had to make a sudden reversal. Additionally, the local teacher’s union has been concerned that “back to the buildings” plans didn’t adequately address safety for teachers. Just another ironic CV19 circumstance, as the unions had been pushing back against online learning pre pandemic.
After a lengthy school board meeting today, Las Cruces Public Schools announced it would still resume classes on August 12, but would not go forward with a previously announced hybrid model of instruction. Instead, the district will start the semester with online classes only. In addition, parents may choose to enroll their children in the district’s Virtual Learning Academy, allowing for online only instruction even when in-person classes resume.
A hybrid model requires teacher expertise in traditional and online learning. Wondering how many teachers are trained in both approaches.
