Las Cruces Public Schools District opened a new Community School during the pandemic, the formerly Alameda Elementary. Faced with school closings, they needed to do an emergency rethink for how the Community School would work with just online education.
Now as some schools reopen for in person instruction, it’s time to do another rethink about blended learning, where what worked online is meshed into the Community Schools experiment.

Community schools in New Mexico are moving ahead with the political will to serve at risk communities of students.
Wondering how students in communities with more then adequate resources also apply strategies that may work for at risk communities.
For example, my grandson attends a private cooperative school in Seattle. Part of the parent contract is volunteering in the classroom 3-5 hours every other week assisting the teacher. The parent also chooses a school job based on their interests, such as caring for the school fish tank. Regular parent meetings bring parents together to discuss topics of a progressive nature, such as white privelege.
