Promotoras, community health workers, have been educating under served communities about health programs for years in El Paso. Now, Promotoras are educating people about El Paso’s vaccine rollout for Covid 19, how to register for the vaccine, and debunking misinformation. Such information is less available and often less available to Latinos and Latino immigrants which is why Promotoras are bridging that gap.

Thanks for the catch Kris, as Promotoras de la Salud and Promotoras for “learning” have been frequent references here at the PSA site. Support for local communities is needed to access services, as governments and foundations can be surprisingly incapable of connecting with culturally marginal people.
Promotores are also a model for integrating local populations with community schools, and a model for the kind of facilitation that can bring huge benefits at the local level in many ways. Disrupted education, and disrupted healthcare need facilitators to make them work, it says here.
