Barbara Oakley,PHD, is a writer, educator and engineer known for her Coursera course on “learning how to learn”. Recently Barbara spent a week teaching about the neuroscience of teaching and Learning at the Tegar Monastery in Kathmandu, Nepal.
The Lead Abbot of the monastery is Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche, perhaps the best-studied yogi in the world. The following book, Altered Traits, is recommended by Barb, revealing how meditation changes our mind, brain and body.
The book suggests some evidence that focused types of meditation, such as those that rely on bringing back attention that wanders, may suppress the activities of the default mode network–the brain’s states of relaxation.

Perspectives that advance the state of the art in brain science are needed, now perhaps more than ever, as we hope to manage AI development, as well as understanding how VR/AR and brain science can undergird effective EdTech.
Sometimes those perspectives come from non traditional schools of thought, such as ancient meditative practices. Kudos to Kris for broadening our reach with same.
