I just signed up for a new Edx MOOC: 11.127x design and development of games for learning, starting on April 1, 2015 and running 9 weeks, asynchronous.
The course is free to audit but I opted for a payment of $50, mainly to see if it helped my commitment level.
The course offers a project based process for designing and developing educational games, something we are interested in at PSA. The course provides a social learning construct with forums, groups, and something called Gameblox for creating a game.
About Gameblox:
11.127x uses an early access version of Gameblox, a new blocks based programming language that makes it easier to create games. Since Gameblox is under active development by the MIT STEP Lab, we will be fixing bugs and adding features as the course goes on. We strongly recommend you use Google Chrome when using Gameblox. Experience with Scratch or AppInventor will be useful, although Gameblox is its own unique environment. Gameblox is on a seperate site from edX; links in the course will allow you to access the site, and log you in automatically using your edX user name and email. You will not be able to access the site unless you are logged in through the course.
Kris, this is exciting…way to go. Will be interested in future posts or links on what you’ve learned. As you say, one of our core OTL concepts that have great potential to Make A Difference. Sounds like a challenging course…
