John has often mentioned Joseph Campbell’s stages of the hero’s journey as a tool for creating game narrative. The following animation is a quick look at the stages of the journey according to Campbell and how the stages fit into ordinary life.

Hey that’s great Kris for a number of reasons. First, it takes a complicated idea that Campbell had about myth, and makes it accessible in a short session.
So much is connected in that one “lesson”. It’s something we will probably want to refer to in the future when we talk about motivation, and releasing latent energies for learning. Among other things, like narrative and characters and roles.
For example, we have talked a lot about how some simple recognition, or belief and faith in success that is offered by a “facilitator or promotora” can seemingly unleash capability previously “blocked” in learners. And that this especially applies in our region and with the local population of learners.
Also, one wonders how hard the production of this TED lesson was to do. We have created our own bare bones live talks TED studio, and we also want to be able to do things similar to the animation shown here. (Press has some of that capability).
