Leading LLM services and tools providers such as OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, etc, are working on creating multifaceted interfaces that can do a lot of what operating systems and applications currently do. There are various reasons for this, but generally it’s about creating one place that users can go that does everything they want to do; and then keeping them there to sell services and software and gather data.
But it’s not easy to join an LLM to various other interfaces to create usable access to tools and functions other than the already existing text research and image creation.
OpenAI has a released tools to “share chats” including GroupChat and Sharing a Project. PSA has tested those recently and found they leave a lot (too much) to be desired in their current forms. IOW, they are being released as Betas to just see what the response is on the way to further development.
Anthropic has just released Claude Cowork to provide additional functionality and has garnered some good reviews initially, such as this below from WIRED. Google’s Gemini is also testing additional functions and tool add-ons to the LLM. Remains to be seen who gets to that promised land of “come here and never leave”.
