David Shapiro has been discussing AI development since the earliest days of GPT and before the LLMs via his websites, and his David Shapiro substack, and a large number of YouTubes.

One of his perhaps most useful and original speculations is what he calls Post-Labor Economics. PSA has posted here a number of Shapiro’s essays and YouTubes on this topic. In the substack post  below he returns to that topic for an update. ( it seems he’s floating the idea of doing a full book on this topic.)

AI and robotics are going to nuke human labor as we know it.

Here’s why:

  1. Better
  2. Faster
  3. Cheaper
  4. Safer

Whenever a machine surpasses humans in these four categories, labor substitution becomes inevitable and paying humans becomes economically irrational.

Perhaps needless to say, all educators that are involved in preparing young Americans for future employment need to have as good a grasp as possible of the job environment coming in the next few years after even more AI development.
