The Congressional Legislation authorizing Federal Funding for state by state school vouchers has created a very confusing alignment of political interests. States have to “sign up” for school vouchers for the Federal Funding to be available in that state. (see below).
The process for these vouchers is complex and perhaps designed to be difficult for the average citizen to understand? Maybe we should also include difficult for the average state government to understand? Perhaps no one really knows how this new program will actually ‘work” in practice? (PSA doesn’t know)
New Mexico’s announcement emphasizes tutoring, literacy and math initiatives, technology, and before- and after-school programs. Students in both public and private schools can benefit. The Public Education Department will establish the scholarship-organization certification process in the coming weeks.
