Healthcare reform has been a very partisan issue for all of the 21st century, which alas helped create the byzantine patchwork healthcare structure we have in the US today.
Costs have risen continually for healthcare consumers, including costs of healthcare insurance, while drug makers/ sellers have been often able to collect what would have been called extortionate pricing in any “rational” cost analysis.
Regulatory Capture applies, and the healthcare patient seems nearly powerless to affect change.
The “patient” continues to lack seats at the table when the rules of who gets what part of the enormous healthcare cost in the US are made, and the pie divvied up. OTOH, OpenAI and others have moved to supply affordable and comprehensive AI tools to clinicians. Frontier models do ever more capable research on healthcare matters for the non medically trained consumer.
It seems the future of healthcare is arriving now (real soon now), however it will be structured. Wearable diagnostics are ever more capable of quality data creation. New healthcare ideas for new systems of care are “in the wind” of late.
